52 St. Philip Street
In 1870, Miss Henrietta (Etta) Aiken Kelly opened the Charleston Seminary for Young Ladies in this building. Only 26 years old, she was living with her widowed father and her younger siblings when she began her enterprise in the home her parents had bought in 1838. J. C. Long’s Construction Services Co. razed the house in 1964 to create a parking lot for the Gloria Theatre (Sottile Theatre). Charleston Evening Post May 3, 1964.
