Simonhoff Family

Simonhoff Family
During the years he led Brith Sholom (1901-1922), Rabbi Jacob Simonhoff lived next door to the synagogue with his wife, Jenny, and their five children. Their daughter Fannie taught at the Shaw Memorial School, which was founded in 1865 to serve African-American students. Named for Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Civil War commander of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment of black troops, the Shaw School operated at Mary Street until 1938.
