On February 7, 2008 the College of Charleston held a dedication ceremony for the African-American Cemetery Memorial on Rivers Green behind the Library. This memorial honors three African- American Cemeteries once located on this site. These cemeteries belonged to the Brown Fellowship Society, the Humane Brotherhood, and what is known as the MacPhelah Society.
