Towell Library Today
Towell Library, dedicated in 1856, served as the College of Charleston’s library until 1972. The building is a National Historic Landmark and is one of three historic structures in the College’s iconic Cistern Yard. The building is named for alumnus Edward Emerson Towell (Class of 1934), who served as a professor, chair of the chemistry department, dean and acting president.
