Barack Obama Speech

Barack Obama Speech
On Jan. 11, 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama, running in the Democratic presidential primary, made a campaign stop at the College with then-U.S. Sen. John Kerry. From a lectern atop the cistern, Kerry endorsed and introduced the man who became the nation’s first African American president. Then-Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and then-President George Benson can be seen in the background watching the speech from the center of the portico. Courtesy of the College of Charleston.
