Charleston NAACP

Charleston NAACP
Across an intersection from a convenience store sits the branch office of the Charleston NAACP. Despite its unassuming location, pivotal decisions were made within the branch office -- such as pressuring for the admittance of Gretta Middleton to the College of Charleston -- that, taken together, would have a momentous effect on the city at large. Without question, the work of the NAACP was essential for achieving the civil rights successes of the 1950s and 1960s. Courtesy of the author.
