New Jersey Centennial Commission Delegate Madaline Williams checks into the Naval Base.
In April 1961, the national Centennial Commission had been scheduled to meet at the Francis Marion Hotel, but organizers realized that it was segregated, so Mrs. Williams, a Black delegate from New Jersey, would not have been able to attend.
